Exhibition 2012: With all the Power
Our Exhibition 2012, was for me, this most amazing and challenging experience. It started with us choosing an issue, something we wanted to change, which we called an "IT". We did this in partners according to our IT, both us and our partner had the same IT. We together, as partners, researched our IT, looking at the history of IT, causes and effects of IT, becoming an expert on our issue. Then because we wanted to change this IT, we created a physics power to change the IT. Something that would change the course of our IT, to create it to be the way we want our IT to be like. A very important part of this project was the fact that we were in the future and projecting what our IT would look like in the future according to the POWER. We would look at how we thought it would progress according to our POWER and the history of our IT. Also, just like anything else in this world, there's a good and bad side to our POWER, so one partner would look at the Pros of the POWER and the other partner would look at the Cons of the POWER. We, as partners, would look at the two perspectives of the POWER, seeing the causes and effects of IT, researching it, and projecting it into the future. We also, as partners, created creative writing stories about our topic, IT and POWER. The purpose was to look at our IT and POWER, along with the Pros and Cons, and to creative write a story about a possibility of the POWER and the IT. To explore the possibilities of our IT and POWER. We were then set into VALEs (Virtual Assisted Learning Environments), which were rooms that we'd present in for Exhibition. These VALEs had several partnerships who all had very similar IT's, one way or another. We worked with these VALE members and our partners throughout the whole Exhibition.
Before and during the Exhibition process, we read a book called "Ender's Game". The book in many ways connects to our Exhibition. One way this that like our Exhibition, Ender's Game takes place in the future, where it explores the possibilities and opportunities of the future. And, as I said before we also had this opportunity to explore the future regarding our IT and POWER. We saw what it could be like with the changed course of our IT, while also the POWER was in place, creating several changes. Also we explored the causes and effects of the POWER, how it'd affect people and how they'd change. The author in Ender's game also did this with seeing what the future would look like, with more technology, different political perspectives, and most importantly the war against the buggers. It also showed how people had changed and progressed, how the were much more mature and older seeming at younger ages. It went into much detail of the future and how things had changed. There was also much physics involved, whether traveling into space, fighting in zero-grativity or beating up bullies, the book wouldn't have consisted of much with out physics. Also in both the Exhibition topic and the book, there was a problem or something that needed to be changed - for Exhibition it was our IT's, for the book it was the fact that Earth was attacked by alien buggers. And also there was some sort of power- in Exhibition it was displayed as a physics demonstration to change our IT, in Ender's Game it was Ender who saved Earth from the buggers and changed the course of the Earth. These were some connections and similarities between Ender's Game and our Exhibition.
A VALE is a Virtual Assisted Learning Environment. It is a room where the partnerships of a similar topic form a group that present together in the same room. They help and support each accomplish their tasks to make the VALE and their presentations the best and most beautiful that it can be. My VALE was very small, only consisting of 4 people. This had both difficulties and strengths. We didn't have a huge VALE, so there wasn't a lot we could do with it which was a bummer. Another struggle was when we did have huge things to accomplish we didn't have the time or enough people. A good thing was because of our size, we had to be simplistic, which was good considering we had few people and were short on time. In our VALE we stayed separate many times, and trusted each other to get the things done that was needed. We'd also work together to create our VALE and would ask each other about and critique our presentations. Over all we had our difficulties and our strengths and I am proud of our VALE.
For my IT, I chose clean water and water scarcity. I want to change the fact that 1.1 billion people don't have access to clean water and it it such a need. You can't physically, mentally, and emotionally live without water. This is a huge and extremely important need that NEEDS to be addressed. It, in my mind, needs to change and it needs to be changed now.
Then, I got my partner, Abby, who also wanted to change water scarcity. She was a very amazing partner. We really understood each other and our thoughts and ideas, many times we had the same thoughts. She also pulled her own weight and balanced each other out, herself being very responsible which was very helpful. I really admired and appreciated that about her, something that I rarely have about others in the past.
We then worked for 3 weeks researching our IT, learning the history of water scarcity, people affected by it, amount of people dying form it, what causes it, the effects of water scarcity, how people have tried to solve it, how people have tried to filter it, different filtrations used in the past and present. We got several different perspectives of our project, some that would inspire. We were both very passionate about this topic which was great, so we were very motivated, giving us great ideas and getting things done. But their were some difficulties, for example the topic of clean water and water scarcity is a ver broad subject and doesn't have definite answers, or a particular starting point or set facts. Therefore it took us a very long time to get all of the answer we needed to proceed. Also I was very busy with my leadership role. I was a visionary/big-picture leader, which required so much of me all day, so during class Abby and I rarely had time to work. I was also very stressed and tired from my other role, but thankfully Abby was very supportive. These strengths and challenges were relevant throughout the whole project.
Next, me and Abby went through the long and hard process of creating a POWER. It took us a while to get it figured out because we'd have ideas and research them, then went to our peers/teachers to see if that POWER would work, and several times it didn't work. It didn't work out because the ideas we had wasn't realistic or accurate or simply wouldn't fulfill the need. After days and weeks, through friends, peers and teachers, we finally got our POWER figured out! This was a huge step and very important part in the project. Our POWER is to have shrunken down ozone generators in our fingertips and a capacitor in our brain to generate electricity for the ozone generators.
This is briefly how it works:
After the O2 molecules are converted by high voltage electricity, water will enter the container and ozone will purify the water. Much more information is below under Physics POWER and Demonstration.
This ozone generator exists now, but shrinking them down and putting them in you fingertips and capacitors in your brain is something we predict could occur in the future, specifically in 2020.
Here are more details about this POWER:
Also, we listed the pros and cons of our POWER to give two different perspectives. Because of high voltage electricity, you can actually taser people, and could kill them, this of course being a Con. Another con is that you may misuse the POWER and not realize the causes/effects and consequences of the POWER and your responsibility. A Pro is that's purifying water is such a huge need and needs to be addressed and dealt with, clean water is a life and death matter. We think that in 2020, 1.7 billion people won't have access to clean water. It's so important that we do something about this issue, water is absolutely necessary for life! nothing exists with our water. I hope and challenge this world that we make a difference and change how this world works and grows. That we'd focus more on others and the world around us, that we'd do something worth it and do it with all of our heart. To go and chase our dreams, to shine and make a difference to let others benefit. To not be afraid and take a chance, to go ran after your dreams to make it a reality. So, will you do this? What's stopping you...... Go For It!
Here is my partner's and mine timeline, the history, present and future of our IT. Enjoy!
H20 Timeline

Orange= Emily (Me) Blue= AbbyFinal Draft 12/17/12-12/20/12
“Good morning, what a great day?” The alarm sang to me. I had not slept at all last night, I just kept laying in bed thinking about what tomorrow would bring. Today is tomorrow. Tomorrow has finally come. I have been waiting for this day for as long as I can remember. I finally pick myself up, out of bed. The clothes I have decided to wear, are hanging, waiting to be worn for the first time. I take a shower and get dressed, and head downstairs, where a big breakfast is waiting for me to eat which I don’t. My mom comes in and asks if I’m ready to go and I say, “Yes, I’m ready to go take the test.”
It is 2050. The world has changed. All teenagers are focused severely on themselves and less and less concerned with others. The media has intensified and become more influential to them. The cause of this is the H.A.N.D., which is a Handular Accessible Networking Device, which is a phone, computer and ipod located directly on the palm of your hand. This device consumes a good amount of the teenagers attention. Teenagers really don’t care for anyone except themselves, nothing but themselves matter, their selfishness is completely disgusting.
BUT, Zofka Anderson is an exception.
When mom and I get to the testing office, someone by the name of Kyle is waiting to take me to the testing area to start the test. The hallways and rooms are dim, as if trying to hide something. The scent of mystery is in the air. I can see people’s heads turn as I walk by. When we arrive at the testing room, the room is completely dark, except for one light shining down on a single piece of paper which lays face down with one pencil beside it on a blank desk. Kyle says, “This test is not timed, so you can take as long as you need. Good luck.” Kyle then leaves with a swift turn. Well, then I better get started, I thought to myself.
Why this test? It all started 30 years ago, when 1.7 billion people didn’t have clean water, and it was the act that if the world- humans, plants, animals, etc.... didn’t have clean water, there would be nothing. That was when the adult world realized the significance and water pollution, water scarcity and clean water and the importances of making it a huge priority. This unfortunately was only made an imprint on the adult world’s mind just 30 years ago, though clean water scarcity has always been a problem. The the people of the world, unfortunately have also made very unwise choices with their resources and made selfish decisions, instead of helping the 1.7 billion in need.
This statement held true until 2020, when the POWER was invented. This was the POWER that could filter filthy water through your fingertips. This was made possible by 2 scientists, who implanted capacitor in their experimentation’s brain, and implanted shrunken ozone generators in the experimentation’s fingertips. The ozone purifies water by having O2 molecules ( the oxygen we breathe) in a container, then by high voltage electricity split and changed into two O molecules ( as in Oxygen 1). The weak O molecule will connect weakly to an O2 molecule to form an O3 molecule, a.k.a. an Ozone molecule. These Ozone molecules, with one weak O molecule and two O2 molecules, will be forced into water. Then, because the O molecule is weak, it will be attracted to bacteria, germs and other harmful particles in the water and attach itself to them. The weak O molecule will then oxidize the particles that it’s attached to. The O molecule will basically decompose the particles it’s attached to, therefore the bacteria and germs will be gone, leaving clean, purified water. Your brain waves connect with the capacitor, so you would be able to use your POWER whenever you wanted and needed.
To receive this POWER, you must take the Test and pass it to prove that you are worthy of the POWER. You then have a capacitor implanted in your brain, and shrunken down Ozone generators in your fingertips, so you can use the power whenever you want or need to. You would be a H2O missionary, traveling the world purifying water for those in need. This would be your job.
Because of the POWER, there has been a major decrease in the amount of people that need clean water. 1000 people have taken the test as of 2020, giving 150,000,000 people clean drinking water.
When I finished the test, they put me in a waiting room, until they could finalize my results. The wait for my results was excruciating, I could barely stand it.
My dream is finally becoming my reality. I have waited and dreamed and hoped about this moment my entire life and now its here. But, what exactly is here, what have I exactly been waiting for my whole life for? That question stuck with me for a while...
To help people...? To get those in need clean water...? To help and benefit others, rather than myself...? What exactly???
My whole life would be defined by the answers to these questions and my test results...
At that moment, Kyle walks in and asks me to go to another room where my result will be revealed. Excitement and fear strike at once as I walk to the room. What if they say “No”? What if they say “Yes”? What then...?
What does this all mean, how will this change and affect me? These results determine my whole life... If they said “Yes”, I’d be an H2O Missionary, where I’d travel the world filtering water for people. People who don’t have something as basic and simple to us as clean water, while we sit here doing nothing wasting time on our pointless H.A.N.D.s. I want to do this, because people can’t physically, mentally live without water, it’s a fact. NOTHING would exist with water. Every minute people die from the lack of clean water. I’m doing this for others not for me.
When I walk into the room, another man is standing there, holding my future in his hands. The man then says, “ Here are your results, you passed.” I let out a breath that I didn’t even know I was holding. I was so overjoyed, I could barely contain it. This day, this moment, this dream I had been dreaming was true and finally a reality. I couldn’t help but smile.
Kyle appears then at the door, waiting to escort me to the Medical Wing. He escorted me down the hallway, up an elevator and to the left through a door reading Medical Wing. The halls again were dark, giving me yet again an odd, mysterious feeling. Kyle, then, turned me over to the nurse, who then escorted me into the Operating Room. The doctor then came in, introducing himself as Dr. Doola. He told me that there would be a small procedure, explaining what would be done during the operation- giving me the POWER- the POWER to purify clean water with an ozone generator and a capacitor-, then telling me that I would be out of there in about 2 hours. I was told to lay down on the operating table, then they making a few adjustments regarding the operation. Next, they gave me drugs that made me sleepy, putting me under. I heard constant murmuring about me and how I was “different” and “special”. That was the last thing I heard before I awoke 2 hours later.
When the operation was over, it took me awhile to get back to feeling normal, which the doctor said was common. I was processing everything that was happening and all that was around me. Kyle came and took me back to the room where I got my results back. Once we arrived, Kyle left. I didn’t know exactly what was going on. What now? They had me sit down, the Man was sitting there once again, except this time he was holding a packet. There was something significant about this packet, the feeling wouldn’t leave me. The Man handed me the packet, telling me to open it carefully, as he explained the contents.
“This is very important. The papers explain your job, what you’ll be doing for the rest of your life and how to do it. It gives you guidelines and understanding.
“You are very different. You are so young and have this amazing passion that very few have, especially at our age. It is so unusual for someone like you, a teenager, to want to pursue this, with the way teenagers are these days. You are about as opposite from that as you can get. And that is what makes you so unique special and beautiful. You have, as we’ve seen in your test results, an incredible, fire-like passion that drives and determines you. This is why we’ve given you the rare opportunity to pass this test, at age 16, not at the standard 21. We have faith and hope in you to make the wise and right decisions, which is really all you journey as a H2O Missionary is. Realizing who and what and how your decisions affect. Choosing between the wise and unwise choice can make a world of difference, and only you can make those decisions. Choosing the right decisions can be hard at times, but in the end it will all be worth it.
“Here is a coin that you will wear around your neck, so people will know you are an H2O Missionary, and to remind yourself of who you are and to motivate you. It is a coin because it has two sides, just as though a choice has two options- Good/Evil, wise/unwise. It will remind you to choose wisely. When you come back tomorrow you will leave for you first mission. Go home and get rest.”
With that I left with the coin and the packet, heading home. After I told my parents the news and everything that had happened today, I headed upstairs to my room, closing the door behind me and climbed into my bed. I didn’t go to sleep, I just laid there.
This was all so much to process and take in. Do I realize what is going on and how this all is going to affect me?
Did I realize that I’m leaving everyone and everything I know? It hit me that I wouldn’t be around my beloved family or friends. Could I go do this knowing that? I hadn’t realized the emotional effects and consequences I had chosen with taking this “job”. I had wanted this so bad my whole life, and now it was here, but was it really what I wanted, what I had dreamed and hoped for?
Yes, I finally decided, holding the coin in my hand. This what I want, and I will put others- a billion others- before me. I will be different, I will change others and the world around me. This is my dream, goal and life, no matter the consequences.
When I woke up the next morning, I looked at my suitcase that I had packed last night and think “I’m leaving today”. It kept hitting me again and again that I had actually reached my highest, most important goal, yet I was leaving everything- everyone I had known, everything I was familiar with- and I was leaving it. Was it worth it, choosing my ultimate goal, yet sacrificing all that I had known....?
I mean of course I could visit and call and send messages on my H.A.N.D., but it’s not the same. Is this really what I want? I hadn’t realized the flip side, the consequences and the cost, but now I was starting to realize the hardships and challenges to this dream I had. I kept having to remind myself of the answer, “YES” this is what I want” . This is my dream, goal and life, no matter the consequences.”
After my last meal at home for a long time, my parents drive me the airport where a plane ticket is waiting for me. I start crying when I say goodbye to my parents. This will be the longest time, that I’ll be away from my parents. When I finally say my last goodbye, I didn’t know if I could actually make it and go through with leaving everything. Although this is what I wanted my entire life, it was also the hardest thing I had ever done. Could I go through with this? Another life changing moment was here and I had another decision to make. Many, many thoughts were going through my brain as I processed all that was going on. Remember, I told myself, chose the wise, the right choice, as I glanced at my coin necklace. Was this the “right” and “wise” decision? I hadn’t realized the challenges and hardships I would face, I knew they would come, but I didn’t expect them to be emotional and mental struggles. Was this all worth it? Am I ready for this, in some ways I’m still only just a kid. Can I handle this? Should I go through with this? Do I want this, is it worth it? I know the answer is yes, but.... My heart and mind were battling each other. One better win quickly because my plane will leave soon, I thought as my parents walked me to the gate. I loved how understanding and sympathetic and loving my parents are, especially at this point in my life. I started to look at things from their perspective, realizing how hard this would be for them. It was difficult to do this though, because I kept selfishly looking at it from my perspective. I want to do this, this is who I am and what I want. I had reached my goal, my dream which had now become my reality. I had to press on no matter the fears, the struggle, the difficulties, the challenges, the consequences. I had to. I chose my Dream, my Goal, my Destination. That is what is what I chose.
Once I had said my final heartfelt goodbye, I felt both some pain, but also much joy and happiness. When I get on the plane, I feel scared but excited about this new adventure. I can tell I made the right decision by deciding I needed this POWER at such a young age.
After several hours, out of my window, I could see a dry, barren lifeless landscape lasting endlessly. What a change from the scenery back home?
When I land at my first destination, I see hardly any life at all, no trees, plants, few animals and only a very small community. The lack of life and water severely bothered me, and again I understand that this was where I was meant to be.
Once we arrived, I decided to take a walk, clearing my mind from all that had happened and take in some fresh air. I wander for a while, until I come across this, in the middle of nowhere... an abandon well. The well is surrounded by lifelessness, barren nothingness, but oddly, life is flourishing from this dry well. Plants are crawling up inside and a tree is growing next to the seemingly waterless well. It is the oddest, and yet the most spectacular thing I have ever seen.
And when I look inside the abandoned well, words start to appear. I see something that changes me forever, something that will never leave me. It tells me what my name means, confirming my destiny...ZOFKA=WISDOM.
The End. (Abby) THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Emily)
Physics POWER and Demonstration
Here is our Physics Demonstration and POWER. Enjoy!
This is how our POWER works:
The ozone purifies water by having O2 molecules ( the oxygen we breathe) in a container, then by high voltage electricity split and changed into two O molecules ( as in Oxygen 1). The weak O molecule will connect weakly to an O2 molecule to form an O3 molecule, a.k.a. an Ozone molecule. The O molecule will basically decompose the particles it’s attached to, therefore the bacteria and germs will be gone, leaving clean, purified water. Your brain waves connect with the capacitor, so you would be able to use your POWER whenever you wanted and needed.
Pros: People worldwide getting clean water
Cons: With this POWER you can electrify people and/or tazer people with, could kill them,
Power: Ozone- implanting ozone generators in fingertips; then implanting capacitors in brain; brain, where capacitors are, sends signals to fingertips to generate ozone generators to purify water.
Discussion:
CONS:
PROS:
Evil: shouldn’t have POWER and why?
misuse, irresponsible, harm, unwise, waste, don’t realize effects, with filtering water it gives a feeling that the water’s unlimited, then it runs out
land
Good: should have POWER and why?
OZONE WATER PURIFICATION
Here is an article about ozone water purification and how it works. It gives more detail about ozone and how ozone works. I hope it's helpful.
What is Ozone in Relation to Water Purification?
Ozone - or O3 - is Mother Nature's purifier and disinfectant. The 3 stands for the three oxygen atoms that compose Ozone. The normal Oxygen we breathe is called O2, and is made up of only two chemically linked Oxygen atoms.
You may have noticed that a sudden summer storm leaves behind a very distinct smell, sort of a "fresh scent" which lasts for about an hour. In this case, you smell Ozone, which has been creating from lighting bolts during the electrical storm. Ozone is also created by the Sun's ultra violet rays.
How Does Ozone Kill Germs and Bacteria to Purify Water?
As mentioned above, Ozone is made up of three Oxygen atoms. Once of these has a weak hold on the others, and is more than willing to transfer electrons with other organic substances, such as bacteria, and viruses. This single Oxygen atoms binds with the other substance, causing it to oxidize (turn into something else. Rust is an example of Iron oxidizing into Iron Oxide). The byproduct of Oxidation in this case is simply O - a single Oxygen atom.
How Do Ozonation Water Purifiers Make Ozone?
Ozonation water purification systems create Ozone with something called an Ozone Generator, which creates O3 in much the same way as the sun does. Inside ozone generator's chamber is a high intensity Ultraviolet (UV) light. Compressed air is forced into the generator's chamber, which then converts some of the oxygen in the air into Ozone. This process is part of the reason why the layer of Ozone in the Earth's upper atmosphere protects us from most of the harmful UV rays emanating from our Sun.
The Ozone that has now been created inside the Ozone generator is then sent through a line into a diffuser, which creates ozone-saturated bubbles. Water is drawn in to mix with the bubbles, and then fed into the water purification tank. The weak Oxygen molecule in the Ozone attaches to other organic molecules in the water and oxidizing them. In effect - the Ozone "eat's 'em up" and Viola! Clean, fresh, purified drinking water.
This, of course, was the laymen's version of Ozone Water Purification. To learn more about Ozonation, you might try doing a search on Google, checking out How Stuff Works, or reading this article about Ozone Drinking Water Treatment.

Here are two images of the well we created. We created this well because we thought it symbolized water, and how by wells people are getting clean water, that they need. We also displayed Good/Evil on the well, by decorating on side of the well dead (Evil) and the other alive (Good). We did this to show the pros/cons to our power and the good/bad of it. This was a wall that an amazing artist painted and drew on to show more of life and the good of clean water and that water brings and gives life. This then shows life and abundance. Here is the other wall wall showing the opposite of the other wall. This wall displays death, which is what would exist with out water. That shows the bad and con side of our POWER, because people could waste the POWER or misuse it, this being the result.
This shows another wall, which was actually a white board full of information of our piece and about our IT and POWER. On top you can see our timeline, then below there's more information. Here is what you'd see if you were to walk into our VALE. The well in the center, the white board with information and our timeline. This is a good picture of our physics demonstration. It explains our POWER related to our IT. It has a diagram of the shrunken down ozone generators as well.

Layout design of Exhibition.
- this POWER and responsibility is available to the public, but you must be 21
- you must take a test that to see how you'd use the POWER and to see if you are worth of this POWER
- this responsibility will be your job, you'll be an H2O Missionary, traveling the world purifying water.
- you will make many choices during your journey about how to use this POWER and realize the causes and effects of the POWER, you MUST be wise, it's crucial
Enjoy!

This is my partners' and mine creative writing piece. Enjoy!
Orange= Emily (Me) Blue= AbbyFinal Draft 12/17/12-12/20/12
Discussion:
CONS:
- tazer (taser) people, could kill them
- interrupt brain waves
- when being a H2O Missionary, many times alone, traveling, no real home, emotionally difficult/challenging
PROS:
- filtering water worldwide, huge need to filter water
- without this POWER, 1.7 billion people and counting are deprived from clean water, which is NECESSARY for life
Evil: shouldn’t have POWER and why?
misuse, irresponsible, harm, unwise, waste, don’t realize effects, with filtering water it gives a feeling that the water’s unlimited, then it runs out
To learn more about Ozonation, you might try doing a search on Google, checking out How Stuff Works, or reading this article about Ozone Drinking Water Treatment.

shrink ozone generators and put into fingertips and implant capacitor into body
